D’oil: The Pro Artist’s Solution to Oily Skin, Slippage, and Poor Pigment Implantation

D’oil: The Pro Artist’s Solution to Oily Skin, Slippage, and Poor Pigment Implantation

There’s nothing quite like the moment you realize your client’s skin is way oilier than expected. You’ve prepped. You’ve mapped. You’re ready to do some beautiful brows or eyeliner. And then…Boom - you’re sliding around. Your gloves won’t grip. Your stretch is not working and you know it. Your anesthetic isn’t absorbing. And your pigment is floating on top like oil and water.

Sound familiar?

That’s the reality of working on oily skin, and every experienced PMU artist knows it can turn a routine appointment into a frustrating experience. It can prolong the procedure which in turn can cause excess trauma and we all know that can affect the healed-in results. The industry has needs a professional-grade degreaser that isn’t harsh on the skin but rather strip away the oil while being kind and gentle to the skin - and that’s why D’oil was created. D’oil is a unique, first of its kind product that address the oil problem and several artist pain points.

What Is D’oil?

D’oil is a professionally formulated pre-procedure prep solution designed to break through surface and subsurface oil on the skin - especially in areas you’re about to tattoo.

Its purpose is clear:
✔️ Remove excess oil (not just on the surface, but deeper).
✔️ Improve topical anesthetic absorption.
✔️ Allow pigment to implant more efficiently.
✔️ Reduce glove slippage for a safer, tighter stretch and control.
✔️ Keep skin balanced and hydrated—never stripped.

It’s not a toner, not a cleanser, and definitely not a makeup remover.
It’s a targeted professional tool created specifically for PMU artists who are tired of battling oil and losing pigment payoff.

Oil isn't just a surface issue, it seeps into the epidermis, creating a barrier that repels pigment, dilutes your color, and prevents proper implantation. This leads to uneven saturation, poor retention, and more work to fix what should have been a clean, precise procedure.

What’s In It (and Why It Works)

Here’s the full formula breakdown, with function:

🩷 Witch Hazel (Hamamelis Virginiana Distillate): A natural astringent that clears oil, calms inflammation, and reduces skin surface tension - great for prepping tattoo zones.

🩷 Ethanol (low concentration): Enhances degreasing action without overwhelming the skin. Evaporates quickly.

🩷 Sterile Water: Clean delivery vehicle.

🩷 Sodium PCA: A humectant that pulls moisture into the skin - keeps skin supple while you degrease.

🩷 Wheat Amino Acids: Strengthen the skin barrier and increase hydration retention.

🩷 Panthenol (Vitamin B5): Soothes, heals, and hydrates - especially useful for delicate skin (like eyelids and lips).

🩷 Glycerin: Hydrating powerhouse that protects from drying effects of witch hazel or ethanol.

🩷 Sodium Hyaluronate: A low molecular weight version of hyaluronic acid - hydrates skin below the surface.

🩷 Hydroxyproline: A building block of collagen - helps maintain the skin’s strength and elasticity.

Witch Hazel and Ethanol clears the oil, our hydrators keep the skin nourished. Skin stays fresh, balanced, and never stripped, just perfectly prepped for better, quicker pigment implantations as well as anesthetic absorption.

Hydrated Skin is important = Hydrated skin is critical because it keeps the epidermis plump and pliable, allowing needles to deposit pigment evenly and fully. Dry or dehydrated skin is tight and flaky, which causes uneven pigment uptake, patchiness, and poor retention forcing you to work harder to get clean, consistent results.

pH = 6, which is very skin-compatible, especially for eyelids or other sensitive zones. This keeps the skin barrier calm and intact so you don't trigger irritation before the needle even hits.

What Makes D’oil Different?

Using Witch hazel on its own, or micellar water, or even alcohol wipes.
Here’s why that’s not enough—and may be counter productive:

🩷 Witch hazel alone can be too drying and often lacks balance.

🩷 Micellar water is not designed to break through real oil buildup. It leaves a residue.

🩷 Alcohol wipes? They wreck the skin barrier, cause irritation, and can increase slippage.

D’oil was thoughtfully formulated to be strong where it counts - breaking through the oil barrier and gentle where it matters - hydrating and protecting the skin you’re about to work on.

Surface Oil vs. Subsurface Oil—Why It Matters

Most cleansers or toners only clean what’s sitting right on top of the skin. But clients with sebaceous overactivity (aka greasy-AF skin) produce oil not just on the surface, it builds up in the upper layers of the stratum corneum.

If you don’t clear that subsurface oil, you’re still going to have:

🩷 Poor pigment implantation.

🩷 Anesthetic that beads up or sits on top.

🩷 Slippage when stretching, mapping, or working.

D’oil is formulated to break through both layers - especially if you let it sit for 30–60 seconds before wiping off. The witch hazel and ethanol degrease, while the hydrating agents protect and replenish. That’s the secret sauce.

Can You Use D’oil On the Eyelids?

Yes. And it’s a game-changer.

Safe when used correctly (pH-balanced, non-stripping, non-sensitizing).
Use lint-free applicators like microbrushes or cotton rounds.
Don’t flood the eye - dab, don’t drench.
Let it sit for 15-30 seconds on oily lids, then gently blot.

This one move can improve the absorption of your numbing gel and reduce pigment slip during the liner procedure, while allowing pigment to implant much better.

Bonus Use: The Anti-Slip Swipe

You already know you can use D’oil to prep brows, eyeliner and oily treatment areas,
But here’s the bonus move: Swipe down forehead, temple, or cheek areas where you rest your hand, stretch, or anchor. Oily skin here causes glove drag, sliding, or uneven tension - all of which lead can lead to lack of control, precision or worse…mistakes. It’s also frustrating when you just can’t get that killer stretch on.

One swipe with D’oil = zero slippage and full control.

Another Bonus Use: Precise, No Smear Mapping

D'oil effectively removes surface oil and buildup that causes mapping strings, pencils, and markers to skip, smear, or fade prematurely, ensuring your brow and eyeliner designs go down with crisp, clean lines and stay sharp longer throughout the procedure.

How to Use It (Protocol Recap)

Before Procedure:

  1. Apply D’oil with a lint-free pad to the area.
  2. Let it sit for 30–60 seconds for maximum subsurface oil breakdown.
  3. Gently wipe or blot off.
  4. Apply pre-numb. Proceed as usual.

On Eyelids:

1.      Apply carefully with a Q-Tip—do not flood or saturate.

  1. Avoid lash line or eye opening.
  2. Let sit 15-30 seconds.
  3. Gently wipe or blot off and proceed with pre-numb.

D’oil FAQ: Everything Artists Want to Know

Q: Is D’oil safe for all skin types?
A: Yes. D’oil is professionally formulated to be effective on oily skin without over-drying normal or combo skin. Thanks to ingredients like hyaluronic acid, panthenol, and sodium PCA, it balances hydration while it degreases. That means it’s tough on oil, but kind and gentle with skin.

Q: Can I use D’oil on dry skin clients?
A: You can, but it’s not typically necessary. D’oil is specifically designed for oily or excessively hydrated skin types that interfere with pigment or numbing absorption. On dry clients, a light swipe might help remove skincare residue, but don’t overuse it. Some clients may become dewy or perspire during the procedure making causing slippage and making it difficult to get a good stretch - a little swipe of D’iol will clean the area and your grip will be restored.

Q: How long should I leave it on before wiping?
A: For maximum oil breakdown, let D’oil sit for 30–60 seconds before wiping. On eyelids, reduce that time to 15–30 seconds. You want it to penetrate without overexposing delicate areas.

Q: Can it go directly over makeup?
A: No. D’oil is not a makeup remover - it’s a pre-procedure degreaser. Remove all makeup first, then use D’oil to remove oil and residue and prep the skin for pigment and numbing.

Q: Will it mess with mapping pencils, markers or string?
A: Actually, it’ll make your mapping better. D’oil removes surface oil that causes string, pencil, or marker to smear or skip. Use it before mapping for longer-lasting, cleaner design lines. You’ll thank yourself later.

Q: Is it safe around the eyes?
A: Yes, but you’ve got to use it like a pro. Apply carefully with a Q-tip or microbrush, don’t flood the area, and avoid the lash line or tear duct. Dab gently and let it sit 15–30 seconds, then blot. Always watch for sensitivity.

Q: What happens if I don’t wipe it off before numbing or tattooing?
A: Don’t skip the wipe. D’oil is designed to lift oil—not sit on the skin. Leaving it on could interfere with your numbing agent or dilute your pigment. Wipe it clean for best results.

Q: Can I use it between passes during the procedure?
A: You can, especially if oil starts reappearing on the skin. But don’t overdo it. Use sparingly, let it sit for a few seconds, blot off, and proceed with more numbing if needed.

Q: Will it dry out the skin?
A: Nope. It’s designed to remove oil without stripping moisture. The formula includes hydrating agents like glycerin, wheat amino acids and hyaluronic acid to keep skin smooth and supple. Degreased doesn’t have to mean desert-dry.

Q: Is the pH safe for sensitive areas like lips or eyelids?
A: Yes. D’oil is pH-balanced at 6, which is very close to the skin’s natural pH. It’s effective without disrupting the barrier, making it ideal for delicate zones when applied correctly.

Q: Can clients use it at home before appointments?
A: No. This is a pro-only product, designed for trained hands and controlled application. Clients should come in with clean skin—you handle the degreasing.

Q: How long does D’oil keep oil at bay?

A: On average 1.5 to 3 hours of noticeably reduced oil for most clients with moderate to high

sebum production.

Q: What determines how long it works?

A: Client’s skin type and physiology

·       Mildly oily clients? They might stay matte for 3+ hours.

·       Super oily “I wake up like this” skin? More like 60 – 90 minutes before the oil begins to creep back again.

A: Environmental Conditions

·       Hot lights? Humid climate or room? Stressed clients generate oil faster.

·       Cool, dry climate or space = longer-lasting effectiveness.

A: What you layer on top

  • If your topical anesthetic is very emollient or oil-based, it may encourage oil return sooner.
  • But if you're using it strategically before anesthetic + pigment, D’oil is doing exactly what it needs to do when you need it most - at the beginning and in the early phases of the procedure.
