The Science Behind Saline Tattoo and PMU Removal
Li-FT® works by using a high-concentration, salt-based solution to draw unwanted pigment out of the skin through osmosis, a natural process that pulls pigment particles up and out of the dermal layer, where they can then be expelled through the skin’s surface during healing.
Unlike laser tattoo removal, which uses heat to break down ink particles, Li-FT® is a non-laser, non-acid saline removal method that gently lifts pigment without causing excessive trauma to the skin.
Step-by-Step: The Li-FT® Removal Process
- Implantation: The Li-FT® solution is gently tattooed or applied into the skin using a machine or manual tool—similar to how pigment is implanted during a PMU procedure.
- Osmotic Reaction Begins: Once in the skin, the salt content in Li-FT® attracts water and begins to draw out the pigment through a process called osmosis, lifting the ink to the skin’s surface.
- Scabbing & Healing: Over the next several days, the area will scab as the pigment is carried out of the skin. Once the scabs fall off, pigment is visibly lighter—and in many cases, significantly reduced or gone.

Before this breakthrough, industry standard required a 6-week healing period before attempting any PMU removal. But in 2020, Teryn changed the game.
A client who had her brows tattooed just 24 hours earlier contacted Teryn in desperation. Recognizing this as a true emergency, Teryn attempted—for the first time—to lift pigment from the skin without needles or causing additional trauma. Within 7 days, the results were undeniable: the pigment lifted successfully, and a new technique was born.
